I voted Obama, I think an Obama win would help the world opinion of the US which would be good for Australia because we are stategically aligned to the US more than Europe and its our interest for everyone to just get along.
Also, I worry the republicans are trying to start world war 3 and I don't really fancy the idea of bleeding to death on a foreign battle field. Maybe 3 years ago, but not today. |

If Obama chooses Clinton has his VP, at least he wouldn't have to worry about getting assassinated by bigot hillbillies. By killing the first BLACK president, they would write a new page in history by introducing the first FEMALE president. It's significantly harder to kill both VP and president the same time.
I seriously would prefer Obama over McCain. I was laughing my ass off when retired General Clark said getting shot down in a plane is not a qualification for president. McCain was shit pissed and the funny thing is, Clark is right. It really annoys me that McCain is showing off that he got his ass shot down. It's kind of like a con man telling everyone he has been ripping off old people because he has to feed his family of 12 kids.
McCain is also acting like he understands the military operation very well. I recall McCain saying there are safe neighborhoods in Iraq outside of the Green Zone, and General Petraeus travels in parts of Iraq is an unarmed HUMVEE. When McCain visits Iraq after he made that statement, he was escorted by trucks of soldiers and couple of helicopters. What a fine example of a Fucking Douchebag. |

| well i really hope that obama wins because i cant stand mccain but i am worried that mccain is better at debating than obama. which is why i thought hilary would have been better because you have to be viscious. thats why i think kerry lost, bush cut his throat and he didnt have that fiestiness in him to fight back in a cut throat way. clinton has it mccain has it but i dont think obama does. |

I guess I just don't feel Obama has any aspirations to run a country and improve it. He's just being a politician and trying to achieve the presidency. Now him and Hillary are kissing each other's ass, Bill will stand behind him and say how much he loves him... it's all bullshit. Just people trying to step over each other and lie their way to the top.
McCain at least has the balls to stand up and admit his mistakes and do what's best for his country, no matter how it makes him look to even his own party. The democrats are just lying their ass off to get elected so they can sit around and do nothing except raise taxes and take away more of the few liberties we still have.
If you think Obama will be good for the country cause it will be the lol, you haven't really been paying attention. |

Obama is for repealing the patriot act, making it impossible to tap the phone lines of suspected terrorists without a mountain of red tape in the way. Not a good decision when America and it's allies are the targets of islamic radicals.
And the democrat party as a whole likes to "protect us from ourselves" by passing laws that take away our rights to do things and put more power in the hands of the government.
Quick lesson: Democrats = more government, less capitalism (liberal). Republicans = less government, more capitalism (conservative). All things equal, I'd like the opportunity to succeed on my own without the government getting in the way and claiming that they need to micromanage my life or I'll fuck it up.
Obama's just a little too liberal for me to stomach. McCain isn't far right conservative, but Obama IS far left liberal. I want someone with common fucking sense in the white house.

| well i can understand the whole gun thing but it's not like the republicans have been doing a stand up job or anything for the last 8 years. i think its a democrats turn. mccain looks like a lier to me as many republicans are. just in it for the power money and sake of being in it. not because they genuinely care. clinton and obama getting along to me that shws that they just want one of them in there, anyone but anther republican. and thats what i am rooting for. plus i honestly think he is too old, i think if there is an age minimum there should be a limit as well |

I have to disagree on "Democrats = more government, less capitalism (liberal). Republicans = less government, more capitalism (conservative)". On the issue of the Patriot Act, which the Republicans favor while Democrats are against, actually gives government more power by eliminating the red tape for the government to wiretap. While it can be said that wiretapping is for Americans' security against terrorism, it is done in the cost of Americans' rights in privacy. In my opinion, the effectiveness of wiretapping in counter-terrorism is significantly less than it is commonly perceived, and not worth giving up our rights to have our privacy. It seems to me that the government is playing on American's fear to erect policies that curtails Americans' civil liberties. Honestly, the government cannot even tell us precisely who these terrorists are. We often see Islamic names that are mentioned on television that are responsible for certain attacks, etc. Yet, none of those names seem to stay on air long enough to give Americans a solid idea of why our soldiers are risking their lives in a foreign land, fighting against enemies masked within friendly civilians. Hell, our soldiers have a hard time telling them apart.
Using an analogy in Comptuer Security, "firewalls should not have default permit, but default deny"; I believe America's focus shouldn't be walling itself up against enemies that cannot be identified. What we should really do is to understand why exactly do these Islamic extremists hate America so much, and resolve the problem. These "terrorists" are attacked us but not other major powers like Russia and China for a reason.
However, I do agree that taking away rights for lawful Americans to bear arms is just plain stupid. Australia tried it once. All the farmers turned in the guns, felons did not. Crime rate went straight up. Simply put it, it will NEVER get passed regardless of which party is in office. |

I can attest to the guns in Australia comment. After the Port Arthur shootings in 1996 the government banned all semi-automatics (farmers can get them in some circumstances).
When I had criminal contacts the going rate was $500 - $1500 for a handgun, fuck all really when there is a shitload of people making that hourly selling meth. 30 odd gangsters were shot dead in a long running underworld war in melbourne between 1998 and 2006. Put simply criminals have access to guns, regular people don't.
We have a decent amount of violent crime. It is common for people to die from being knocked out and head butting the kerb. Grannies get bashed and robbed all the time.
People still die, get hurt, get robbed. Servos still get held up, they usually just use a lump of wood cause they know the guy behind the counter doesn't have a gun.
Suicide by train increased dramatically after guns were restricted. This is a serios problem in Aust. It has cost me 3 hours of my life before. Hundreds of train drivers are traumatised by it every year.
Also, I swear we have the most arrogant politicians in the world. I believe even the slight threat of an armed uprising would keep them governing FOR THE PEOPLE.
Basically anyone who isn't young, fit, male, stupid or all of the above lives in FEAR from the random violence, they have no control of thier own safety and rely on the police, who do a great job but are wayyyy underpaid and under resourced (ie arrogant poilticians, same deal with doctors, nurses, teachers, childcare, aged care).
So what did we achieve by banning semi autos:
1) restricted access to semi autos to criminals only
2) made older/smaller/female people sitting ducks to being mugged
3) encouranged random fist fights (aussies don't need too much encoraging there)
4) turned lumps of wood/steak knives into fearsome weapons
5) forced people to commit suicide by jumping in front of a train
6) gave the politicians NO INCENTIVE to govern for the PEOPLE and EVERY INCENTIVE to govern for the MEDIA
7) created a climate of FEAR
Those are the facts on the ground.
